I am so excited to share the cover of my forthcoming book and pre-order links!

Here she is, the cover of MOTHER TONGUE TIED: On Language, Motherhood, Multilingualism — Disrupting Myths & Finding Meaning.

It has been a challenging week so I am keeping this short. In the next newsletter, I will share the inspiration behind the cover (hint: Poland! Communism! Artistic freedom! Post-war Soviet rule!) and how for a moment, I considered something much lighter and softer but ultimately wanted this type of strong and bold typography, highlighting “tongue” for many reasons (all will be revealed soon). The book is coming out on June 20th, 2024 in most parts of the world (more to come on a North American date hopefully soon).

This book is for anyone interested in multilingualism and language, with or without children, but also for mothers, fathers, women, people (everyone!) caregivers, anyone who has ever been discriminated against because of their language or the way they communicate, or was part of the discriminating (yes, probably you too but it’s OK, we live and learn). It is about bodies, borders, love, babies, accents, caregiving, raising multilingual kids, the birth and death of languages. It is about linguistic diversity but also, linguistic inequality and how we all must strive to do and be better. And if I have yet to convince you this book is for everyone, let me add, there is swearing, there is mention of thongs, snails, (multilingual) sex and most of all, love.

I will likely mention it many more times but pre-orders are so important, especially for debut authors because:

• They are a good indicator of a book’s sales potential for retailers

• Those retailers may then increase orders

• Pre-orders may also push the publisher to do “more” for a book in terms of publicity etc. if there is a buzz around pre-orders

• If a pre-order is not in your budget, ask your local library to purchase the book, this also helps!
